Sex as Manipulation

I'm sure we we know that sex can represent many things to many people. It can mean freedom, a display of erotic passion, a tool of survival, and an expression of love. Sex can also be manipulative and we’ve already discussed a few ways earlier like rape, molestation, adultery, etc. Sex is manipulated and used in an ill-advised way every day, especially in our personal relationships with our significant others. We have a habit of using sex a bargaining tool, or a trade-off. Throughout the years, I always heard a statement that may be familiar to you, “men give love to get sex, and women give sex to get love”. Looking back I never really agreed with that statement because we end up using sex and love as a reward based incentive to get what we want or desire from another individual. There are some women who trade sex for love, hoping that the man they are currently dating is “the one”, and end up losing that bet because there is no way to ensure that the guy will hold up his end of the bargain. There are men who won’t give or satisfy a woman’s emotional needs until he gets sex first. Most men already know whether or not they will hold up their end of the bargain, but they go along for the joy ride anyway. In the end, even if both parties agree to this arrangement, they both still lose because (1) they have reduced the beautiful act of sex to a mere trade-off and (2) they completely ignore the spiritual and emotional components inherent in sexual contact, which is dangerous.
